Happy Surfing with Safari: Uninstall FLVR and Remove All Install Managers
TastyApps made a great little plugin for Safari that allowed you to copy Flash movies from web sites. With the update to Safari 3, FLVR no longer worked and Iaunching Safari kept creating a "SIMBL error" ("SIMBLE Error Safari 3.0.4 (v5523.10) has not been tested with the plugin FLVR (null) (v1.0). As a precaution, it has not been loaded. Please contact the plugin developer for further information.")
Searching for "FLVR" does no good, as the plugin is actually called "SIMBL" which, for some reason, also would not appear in a Spotlight search. The solution is to manually navigate to:
/Library/InputManagers/
and delete the "SIMBL" folder.
TastyApps has replaced the FLVR plugin with a new application called Videobox:
The developer claims to offer a free exchange for customers who bought FLVR (present company included) though five days after sending the request, this offer still fails to have materialized. The app does have a nice icon though.
As an addendum, while doing research on this FLVR issue, an interesting article from MacFixit about InputManagers magically appeared in Google. In summary, the article says... don't. Don't add any Input Managers as these interfere directly with the code of an application and are often a source of problems. So, to keep Safari running smoothly, add stand-alone apps (like "Videobox") but not applications that reside in the InputManagers folder. In fact, the article suggests removing all items from this folder at once.
Like all good advice, feel free to ignore it. I did. "Peril" is my middle name...
